DETROIT, Jan 07, 2010 (Detroit Free Press - McClatchy-Tribune News Service via COMTEX) --The rows and rows of displays by photographers, cake decorators, floral designers and everything else you could possibly want for a wedding nearly overwhelmed Rana Mansour of Sterling Heights, Mich., and her fiance, Rashad Saleh of Dearborn, Mich.

Fortunately, they knew exactly what they'd come to check out at the Brides-to-Be Expo in Dearborn _ photo booths.

Photo booths will be big at weddings in 2010, says Cyd LaChiusa, producer of the Brides-To-Be Shows, one of several presenters of bridal expos that get going in January.

Other trends sure to be popular, according to wedding planners and couples: Cupcakes, lighting that shines the couples' names or initials around the reception hall, live entertainment and dancing to or from the altar.

Expect brighter, richer colors too, a reflection of the brighter economic forecast expected in 2010, says Tom Schoenith, owner of the Roostertail, on Detroit's riverfront.

Brides are requesting jewel tones, Tiffany blue and other brighter colors _ a marked contrast to the more subdued browns and beiges popular last year, says Schoenith, whose establishment has hosted weddings and reception for 52 years.

Julie Raimondi, editor of Brides Michigan magazine and brides.com, says gray will be a popular. "Higher-end grays and neutrals can be incredibly elegant," she says. "I think you'll also see patterned and printed bridesmaids' dresses."

Expect to see brightly colored shoes, she says _ red and bright blue with the white and ivory gowns.

Couples still want beautiful weddings on a budget, but they're going for special touches that reflect who they are and offer lots of fun and memorable moments.

That's why Mansour, 29, and Saleh, 31, plan to have a photo booth.

"It's a great way for everybody who comes to enjoy themselves and get a keepsake from the wedding," says Mansour, a doctor, who met Saleh, a chiropractor, at a get-together with friends about a year and a half ago.

Shayna Goodman, 24, of Livonia, Mich., is also excited about having a photo booth at her wedding to Brandon Kummer, 25, though it won't be until January 15, 2011.

"The photo booths are really awesome and they make a great party favor as well," says Goodman, who won a battle of the bouquet toss at the Brides-to-Be Show and won a three-hour ride from Luxury Limousine of Dearborn.

Generally, guests enter into the booth under the direction of a host at the reception. Two photos pop out _ one for the guest and another that the company compiles into a scrapbook for the bride and groom.

Renting a photo booth and the use of a Web site for posting photos that can be ordered costs about $800.

At lots of weddings this year, look for cupcakes, once seen primarily at kiddie birthday parties.

Donna Anderson, who operates Celebrate with Cupcakes out of her Flat Rock, Mich., home, started baking cupcakes for weddings last year and has done four. She does cupcake trees, cupcake bouquets and cupcake keepsakes, all decorated and filled based on each couple's request.

"Couples like them because they're fun, different and unique," she says.

Cupcakes are under consideration by Katie Zack, 23, of Highland, and Mike Keeler, 25, of Rochester, Mich., for their Oct. 9 wedding.

"Since we're on a budget," Zack says, "I like that cupcakes can be made in our wedding colors and double as centerpieces."

Chelsea Milling Company, the producers of the popular Jiffy food products, had us out to their annual holiday party this past Saturday. What a great party with all types of fun games that kept everyone moving all night. Best of all the line for the photo booth was longer than the line for the bar all night long. Thanks for having us out!!!

I just want to send out a special thank you to all of the employees, customers, wedding professionals, family, and friends for making this past year such a great success for Qwik Picz Photo Booth.

We just finished calculating all of the numbers from 2009 and we are happy to say that in our first full year of business we did 100+ events and took over 50,000 pictures. Amazing!!  We started off the year with just 1 booth and had 5 going by the end of the year. We are in the process of having 5 more booths constructed right now so hopefully we can accommodate everyone and not have to turn down so many people, as we did this past year because many of our dates filled up so quickly. This far exceeded our expectations and we have every intention to do the same this upcoming year.

We already have just about as many events booked for 2010 as we did in the whole year of 2009 and we are only 4 days in. We hope to keep them coming!!! We still have great specials running for the next couple of months which everyone can take advantage of for your upcoming events this year and next. Be sure to check up on our site for a list of upcoming bridal shows that you can visit us at. As a special thank you for spending your time to come out and see us at any of the bridal shows we have always have special pricing to share with you.

As always, if there is anything that you can share that will help make us better in the future please don't hesitate to pass your comments along.

We wish you the best in 2010 and look forward to having another amazing year!!!

Thank you again....

Wedding Photo Booth Rentals are Reception Fun

How to Rent Photo Booths and Get the Greatest Picture Booth Photos

Oct 30, 2009 Tricia Spencer

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a photo booth rental for the wedding reception can be priceless.

Following a few important guidelines when renting a photo booth will insure getting the most out of the experience while creating amazing keepsake memories for everyone who participates.

Photo Booths Create Forever Memories

Many people remember the days when instant photo booths were everywhere. From carnivals to stores, movie theaters to sidewalks, those large boxes with the pull curtain and single seat produced strips of candid pictures that were later pinned to bulletin boards or tucked into wallets or scrapbooks. Today, those clever booths have entered the digital age and found a new life adding a fun and memories to wedding receptions.

Photo booths are available to rent from companies and independent entrepreneurs. The booth is brought to the reception and placed at the entrance or positioned in another easily accessible location. During its time of service, guests can use the booth to create a little extra wedding favor keepsake for themselves. And copies of all photos taken become an extraordinary treasure for the bride and groom.

Picture Booths Are Not Created Equal

To insure a perfect rental of a photo booth for the wedding reception, the bride and groom need to compare picture booth companies carefully. Not every company offers the same options, and pricing can be drastically different for each.

Some welcome options could include:

  • web hosting of photos for a period of time after the event
  • a CD or DVD of all photos for the bride and groom
  • a video monitor on the outside of the booth so that guests can watch the antics inside
  • a physical and/or virtual scrapbook for guests to leave messages with the photos
  • reprint capability
  • customized booth décor, inside and out, to fit the reception theme
  • bride and groom personalized banners, pictures and art
  • photo color choice—color, black & white or sepia
  • sophisticated lenses that can capture multiple people in a single image
  • included set-up and tear-down
  • a provided booth host or hostess and/or on-site technician
  • unlimited photos
  • instant double prints—one set for the guest, one for the bride and groom
  • personalized photo strips
One company’s prices may appear cheaper than another’s, but the reason may prove to be that the lower priced company offers less. Comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges is the best way to determine the value for dollars spent.

15 Questions to Ask the Photo Booth Rental Provider

In addition to inquiries about what unique services are available, other important questions will help the wedding couple determine the best photo booth provider for their event.

1.     What power source and support surface must the venue provide to host the photo booth?

2.     How large is the booth and how many people will it hold?

3.     Can the booth be used outside?

4.     Is there a security deposit and is it refundable in the event of cancellation?

5.     Does the rental fee include every service or is each service ala cart?

6.     Does the company have references and verifiable testimonials?

7.     Do the photos print in seconds or in minutes?

8.     Does the booth provide quality lighting for the pictures?

9.     Is the process user friendly with simple button operation or a touch-screen?

10.   Is there a mileage charge for delivery?

11.   Is the company properly insured and will the reception venue be added to an insurance rider?

12.   Will the well-maintained booth I choose be the actual one delivered?

13.   Are photo samples available to ascertain quality?

14.   How many hours of service are included?

15.   Is the company wedding reception experienced?

Photo Booths Do Wonders for Wedding Receptions

If a service with unlimited photos is selected, wedding guests can visit the booth time and again throughout the reception, and in the end, there will be a wealth of amazing pictures to cherish.

The keepsake photos are reason enough to consider a photo booth rental for the reception, but they aren’t the only reason. Photo booths do more than take pictures. They create excitement and camaraderie among guests. They break the ice for guests who don’t know each other. They entertain young and old alike. And most importantly for the bride and groom caught in the whirlwind of the day, the booths capture a unique composite portrait of their fun-filled reception that they might never otherwise see.

Photos booths are all about smiles.
